Dear Parents,
In reading, we will use music from the Playing For Change website to make inferences about figurative language, find evidence to support themes, and review poetry vocabulary. In math, we’ll begin multiplication of fractions and continue our review of whole number operations. Please check in with your child and practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers. Students are still struggling with those procedures in class. Homework for This Week, due on Friday, February 2. 1) Read your Cougar Family Book Club Novel-See calendar and information from last week. Be ready to post on this week’s question during Friday’s class. 2) Study Wordly Wise Words: The test on Lesson 7 words will be on Friday, February 9. 3) Study Spelling Words-The test will be on Friday, February 2. 4) Mighty Mathematicians Homework Bags-Due Friday, February 2. Please be sure all materials are stored safely back in the bags and that your child returns his/her math journal response. We’ll be having our class store at the end of this week. Please send in snack/drink items and other small items. You can also send in old games, toys, and other unwanted items from your home. Reduce, recycle, reuse! We are preparing to celebrate our Cougar Family Book Club reading! The Cougar Family Book Clubs will conclude next week. We will have our “in person” book club celebration on Friday, February 9. Please have your child bring his/her Book Club texts on Friday, February 9. If you are able to join us from 8:10-9:00am, bring your copy of the text with you when you come to our celebration! When you arrive, your child and other students who read the same book will meet at special tables in our classroom. You will enjoy some snacks and talk about the book. I will provide a few questions if you need something to start a conversation, but I really don’t think you will need them. Just have a relaxing talk about what you liked about the book and what you’ll remember. The students have really shared a lot of great thoughts on our class blog. We’ve also added some video clips related to the books on our blog. Feel free to check them out on our class website. (www.mrsparkfifthgrade.weebly.com) If you are able to join us, please jot a note in your child’s planner or email me. I want to make sure I have enough snacks! J If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact me.
