Homework for the Week of December 2
- Read Each Evening: Remember if your child has not finished the daily reading assignment, he/she needs to take the book home to finish reading. We discuss in groups what is happening in the text and what your child is wondering.
- Word Study List: Your child has written down his/her word study list in the planner. Your child will have the test on these words on Friday, December 6.
- Wordly Wise test on our Lesson Six list will be on Friday, December 13. Your child has these words in his/her Wordly Wise book. He/she may bring the book home nightly to study the list. Please just remind your child to bring the book back to school daily. Your child may also use the links on our class website to review for the Wordly Wise test. Cougar Family Book Club: Four years ago, I received a Bright Ideas grant from Rutherford Electric. It was a wonderful opportunity for our classroom! I used the grant to purchase books for our Cougar Family Book Club. The students will select books to read in a "book club” and an additional copy of the book will be sent home for a parent or other family member. The Cougar Family Book Club will promote literacy skills and strengthen the home-school connection. You can read the book with your child in the evenings or you may choose to read at a different time and then discuss the book with your child.
For the Cougar Family Book Club, students will be posting their questions and thoughts on the books on our class webpage once a week. Parents can add their comments via technology as well. Or if you prefer, you could jot a few sentences on a sheet of paper detailing your thoughts and questions on the text to help further the students’ discussions.
At the culmination of our Cougar Family Book Clubs, we will invite parents/family members to our class for a “book club” meeting. This will give everyone an opportunity to discuss the book in person. Our classroom will be transformed into a café complete with tablecloths, fresh flowers, food, and terrific discussion about books!
I’ve included the different ways you can participate in the Cougar Family Book Club below. Please return the Cougar Family Book Club form below by Friday, December 6. I’ll be working to plan out the details. More details will be sent to you after the winter holiday break. We will begin this Cougar Family Book Club in January, thanks to Rutherford Electric! I am excited, as always. J
