On the last day before the holiday break, students participated in several activities to give them a feel for life as a colonial child. I am very grateful to all of the parents who sent in materials and volunteered their time to help in our classroom that Friday. Students explored everything from playing jacks and creating tin punch ornaments to hand dipping candles and trying their hand at printing with potato stamps. What fun!

Our students created and explored terrestrial, freshwater, and salt water ecosystems, complete with goldfish, darkling beetles, pillbugs, and brine shrimp! We set up experiments to test abiotic and biotic factors in the ecosystems. We will pull in this hands-on experience as we finish up our ecosystem learning in January. The creatures have lovingly been adopted by some of our wonderful fifth graders and their families! Our class has been learning about the events that caused the American Revolution. One of their favorite activities was the Boston Massacre CSI. Students visited a crime scene and explored exhibits including primary source documents and video interviews of witnesses. At the end of the week, the student detectives had to decide if the Boston Massacre was an accident, murder, or self-defense. It was a tough activity, but the students rose to the occasion! Gosh! November and December flew by. The kids took lots of photos, but have not posted them. So check out our slideshows on the blog detailing some of our activities the past few months! Enjoy. :)
