Homework for the Week of August 26
- Read Each Evening: Read for twenty minutes. Once we begin our book club routines, your child may have his/her book club text to finish reading in the evenings. If there is no book club text, please have your child read a book of his/her choice. I’m happy to check out books from my classroom library if your child needs reading material.
- Word Study List: Your child has written down his/her word study list in the planner. I have assessed to find the developmental spelling stage of each student, based on the research of Words Their Way and Word Journeys. This allows me to target the specific skills your child needs in spelling. Every child will not have the same list. You may help your child study the words in different ways—give a practice spelling test, write them three times each, use playdoh to make the words, etc. The students complete activities with their words each day in class. On Friday, I will randomly select ten words from the list to give as the spelling test.
- On Friday, we will have a Wordly Wise test on our Lesson One list. Your child has these words in his/her Wordly Wise book. He/she may bring the book home nightly to study the list. Please just remind your child to bring the book back to school daily. Your child may also use the links on our class website to review for the Wordly Wise test. - Register for Remind: You may also sign up on Remind by going to the following link for reading, rmd.at/d82b69
I will be entering our first grades in PowerSchool. As the nine weeks grading period continues, I’ll add more grades. I take several grades so students do not have to worry about one poor score dropping their average. If work is missing, it will be indicated in PowerSchool. I accept late work and will change the grade accordingly. If your child has a low score on any assignment, he/she may make corrections. Simply have your child make the corrections and write “corrected” on the top of the paper. The students return the corrected papers to me. I’ll add an additional grade into PowerSchool for the corrections.
Have Unused Smartphones? Please help!
If you, your family members, or friends have unused smartphones lying around the house, we can use them. Just do a factory reset on the device, then send us the device with the charger. We’ll use it to snap into the headset to help run a virtual reality experience or use it for other digital learning. It will give new purpose for a device just lying in a drawer! If we can get more phones donated, then we’ll have a class set!
Class Store
Our students have been earning lots of tickets for on-task behavior. So many tickets that I don’t have enough items for our class store. If you are able to send in small items or snacks for our class store, it would be greatly appreciated. If you’re not sure what to get, just ask your child what they’d like. The items also do not have to be new. Often, I clean out old party favors, games that we don’t play anymore, etc. from our home. They get reused by someone else when they are purchased in the class store.
Keep checking our class website at www.mrsparkfifthgrade.weebly.com. If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact me. You may jot a note in your child’s planner (just remind your child to show me!), call (704-736-1504), or send an email ([email protected]). Have a terrific week! Mrs. Melissa Park
