I hope your family enjoyed your spring break together! We are in the final stretch of fifth grade! In science, we will be finishing our exploration of Force and Motion. Please have your child read over his/her force and motion notes in the science notebook. Ask your child to explain the experiments we’ve been doing in class and the concepts they have learned through those experiences. We debrief at the end of each experiment, so students can compare data and discuss the patterns and concepts we’ve figured out. When we answer EOG practice questions, the students can often relate the questions to experiments we’ve conducted in class. We will have our paper and pencil test on Force and Motion on Wednesday, May 1st. The computer based LOT will be scheduled later in the month because it includes other topics as well.
We will be continuing our exploration of the three types of heat transfer in class. Your child has notes on this in his/her science notebook in the “weather” section. It would be helpful to start reviewing those notes as well. On Friday, students will put their knowledge into action as we create solar ovens to cook s’mores. Science can be fun and yummy!
In social studies, students will make a final decision as a wagon train during our pioneer simulation. We will also learn about the role of Chinese Americans in the creation of the transcontinental railroad this week.
If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact me. You may jot a note in your child’s planner (just remind your child to show me!), call (704-736-1504), or send an email ([email protected]). Have a wonderful week! Mrs. Melissa Park
