Dear Parents,
Our students have been hard at work on building their fraction understanding! This week, we’ll tackle mixed word problem reviews. We will also start working with decimal place value. Be sure to ask your child about our hopscotch place value board/chant and our 100 bead decimal number line at the end of the week! Remember that your child will complete either the Mighty Mathematician Bag OR the Worksheet Packet, not both assignments. Returning items by the due date on Friday is still an issue for many students. Please remind your child to gather his/her work on Thursday evening in order to return it in a timely manner on Friday. This is an important work habit to practice now to help our children be more successful in middle school. Homework for This Week, due on Friday, February 1. -Mighty Mathematicians Bag: Complete the activity. Be sure to have your child write a response to the math journal questions. Return the bag, journal response, and all materials on Friday, February 1. -Worksheet Packets: I’ve sent home the students Ready Practice and Problem Solving books. Each week, This week, students will complete pages 147,148, 267 and 268 from the Ready Practice Book, Be sure to remind your child to write his/her name on top of the sheets. If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact me. You may jot a note in your child’s planner (just remind your child to show me!), call (704-736-1504), or send an email ([email protected]). Have a terrific week! Mrs. Melissa Park Dear Parents,
In reading, the students have been reviewing text structure while enjoying carnival games and prizes. Be sure to ask your child about our photo booth last week and the descriptive paragraphs they created! We will look more closely at cause/effect and sequence text structures this week. Homework for This Week, due on Friday, February 1. 1) Read your Cougar Family Book Club Novel-See calendar and information from last week. Be ready to post on this week’s question during Friday’s class. 2) Study Wordly Wise Words: The test on Lesson 7 words will be on Friday, February 1. This date was adjusted due to our shortened week, three hour delay, and NC Check In testing. 3) No Spelling Words-Due to NC Check In testing on Monday, we will not have spelling words this week. Mrs. Nash and I want the students to have time to get caught up in class on our previous assignments. We’ll hopefully be back to our regular routine next week. We’ll be having our class store soon. Please send in snack/drink items and other small items. You can also send in old games, toys, and other unwanted items from your home. Reduce, recycle, reuse! We are preparing to celebrate our Cougar Family Book Club reading! The Cougar Family Book Clubs will conclude next week. We will have our “in person” book club celebration on Friday, February 8. Please have your child bring his/her Book Club texts on Friday, February 8. If you are able to join us from 8:10-9:00am, bring your copy of the text with you when you come to our celebration! When you arrive, your child and other students who read the same book will meet at special tables in our classroom. You will enjoy some snacks and talk about the book. I will provide a few questions if you need something to start a conversation, but I really don’t think you will need them. Just have a relaxing talk about what you liked about the book and what you’ll remember. The students have really shared a lot of great thoughts on our class blog. We’ve also added some video clips related to the books on our blog. Feel free to check them out on our class website. (www.mrsparkfifthgrade.weebly.com) If you are able to join us, please jot a note in your child’s planner or email me. I want to make sure I have enough snacks!
